Trimble Insight is Trimble’s annual transportation-focused conference and a space for transportation leaders to share new insights with the transportation market. For this project, I led the visual identity development for their on-site activity (Camp Insight Scavenger Hunt), motion graphics design for digital billboards, and the Partner Showdown presentation and loading screens.

Camp Insight Scavenger Hunt Challenge

This project included designing and producing physical materials for the on-site activity, including designing achievement booklets for participants and merit badge stickers representing the different activities for the audience to participate in throughout the entirety of the conference.

A major goal we wanted to achieve was unifying the event branding with a fun, retro “Camp Insight” feel, to make the audience feel like they were participating in a genuine camp activity. For this, calling upon 1950s flat illustration design was key to use the brand colors and negative space to marry both the playfulness of the activity, and the impact of the conference branding as well. Due to the variety of events at the conference, every badge required its own unique illustration and cohesion with the color palette,  as well as standing out at a small 2 inch stature.

Insight Partner Showdown

The Partner Showdown is Trimble Insight’s “game-show” portion of the event, including fun demo presentations from industry leaders, showcasing how they use Trimble products in their own workflows. Editing, designing, and organizing the Partner Showdown presentation slides according to the script from Applebox, as well as designing and animating the idle screens for the event block.

For the idle screens, a major goal was bringing to life the spirit of San Diego’s peaceful, airy, and ocean-based environment, and translating it to the big screen. Keeping in mind the Insight branding as well, I wanted to keep the color palette to only include the Insight colors, and applied a similar illustration style that was used in the stickers from the Scavenger Hunt.

However, due to this piece being rigged for animation, we had to keep in mind which elements would have small moments of “delight” in movement (such as the wave, fireplace, birds), and which would remain static. We wanted to make sure the animation did not impact the color contrast within the piece, thus maintaining a high-contrast animation at all times. The “big wave” was also inspired by simple paper-cut illustrations, as well as “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai.

The screen for the presentation timer was conceived from the idea that the environment on the screen would change as the minutes counted down, thus providing a visual “pressure” stimulus to the presenters and audience. For the 5-minute timer, it would start at sunset and transition to a fully nighttime sky, signifying the end of the presenters’ demo time.

On-site Digital Billboards

This task involved producing animated digital billboard video assets to loop on screens at the venue, promoting the conference’s daily agenda(s), specific events, products, and sponsor logos.
